Unlocking Advanced Display Customization with Samsung’s Display Assistant

Samsung’s Good Lock and its suite of modules have been a favourite feature on Galaxy phones, giving you more Android customization than just any other phone. Regular updates and new features were introduced to introduce new ways for users to tweak the system behaviours.

Our Display Assistant is one of the newest additions to the Good Guardians lineup of apps, offering advanced, per-app display controls. Let’s see how Display Assistant helps you better use your Galaxy phone.

Custom Per App Screen Timeout

One of my favourite features of Display Assistant is the fact we can set a custom screen timeout for each app. This means that instead of having to live with a global screen timeout for all apps, you can configure the time each application stays on the display. You decide the screen timeout to use in ebook reading or video watching because you choose what you are doing based on the app’s needs.

It is a more advanced feature than what you get in even some of the most feature-packed Android skins, such as Chinese custom ROMs. You can control how much power you use for your device’s screen while keeping it on long enough for each app you ever need.

Power Efficiency Limit Display Refresh Rate

One of Display Assistant’s coolest power-saving features is limiting the display refresh rate to 60Hz for specific apps. Many apps do not need the high refresh rates afforded by modern Galaxy phones, but reducing the refresh rate for certain apps can help conserve battery life, especially when playing less graphically intensive games or just browsing content.

BLC Bypass

Display Assistant allows users who want to control their display brightness better to disable their Galaxy device’s standard bright limit curve. It lets you drive the display at a higher brightness level for longer times. But keep in mind this will make your device run hotter and take longer to cool down. This makes the feature a little brighter and more flexible, but that was to be used carefully to avoid overheating.

Adaptive Brightness Customization

Display Assistant has been added to improve the adaptive brightness feature. If you want, you can slow down the speed at which the brightness changes, a nice dial allowing you to increase the speed to 2x or 4x the normal speed.

Thanks to the lighting environment, faster adjustments are crucial for your experience in overly dynamic environments, for example, scenarios where you might switch between a lit scenery, multistory restaurants or microclimate terrain.

Maintain Screen On for an Extended Period

The ‘Keep Screen On’ option is also a nice feature that will stretch your phone’s screen timeout to 30 mins. This option is a good idea when you have to keep your phone’s display on for long periods, such as during a video call or some very long instructions. It also makes things even easier: you can add a shortcut to the Home screen Quick Settings panel to enable or disable the network quickly.

Galaxy devices only allow screen time out to a maximum of 10 minutes, but with this app, you can keep your screen up for much longer.

Battery Longevity through Screen Curtain

Samsung’s Screen Curtain feature lets you put your phone’s screen to doze. Dim when active: Keeps your display active while decreasing brightness. This feature applies to long stretches when you do not need actually to view the screen.

For example, while your phone is running in the background or while you are just listening to something. Extending your device’s runtime without using up your functionality is a great way.

Why Display Assistant stands out

Display Assistant is Samsung’s display customization software, and other Android manufacturers do not provide this extent of display customization.

Samsung proves its dedication to delivering powerful and flexible control for users wherever they want it by allowing them to tailor display behaviour for certain apps and scenarios.

Getting Display Assistant

display assistant is currently running in beta on Galaxy S24 units running beta One UI 7 firmware. If you are running the S24 Android 15 beta, you can find the app in the Galaxy Store or grab the APK from a trusted source.

Conclusion

Samsung already offers a more customized version of the Galaxy phone in its accessory line of Smart Tags, but now, with its Display Assistant, it is taking the options available to the next level.

Display Assistant offers a multitude of features to help you improve battery life, set brightness settings or exert more control over your device’s display behaviour which is no mean feat when you consider Android’s penchant for featuring alternatives to every possible part of your phone. Features like per-app screen timeout, adaptive brightness tweaks, and the unique capability of Screen Curtain tell us Samsung is really all about providing its users with a deeply personalized experience.
