The same Garmin users were confronted once more with unexpected crashes months after that kind of thing tripped up their smartwatches. Near the end of 2024, Many Garmin watches were rendered temporarily unusable, either by displaying an IQ logo with an orange exclamation mark or not working. A new bug has emerged, infecting watches and cycling computers.

The New Garmin Crash Bug

TechRadar reports that the latest release’s activities loading a GPS activity are causing devices to crash. Those users now see a blue triangle as if they saw a red one before, signaling a system failure instead of the previous IQ error screen.

The list of affected devices is extensive, including:

  • ✅ Epix
  • ✅ Fenix
  • ✅ Forerunner (including entry-level Forerunner 55)
  • ✅ Instinct (obviously the latest Instinct 3)
  • ✅ Venu
  • ✅ Various cycling computers

That means it is a common issue covering older and newer models, which suggests.

Garmin has acknowledged the problem and posted a support banner on its website with a simple troubleshooting step:

🛠 “Power off your device by pressing and holding the power button until the device powers off, then turn on the device and sync with the Garmin Connect app or Garmin Express.”

This fix will work for some users, but posts suggest it won’t be the end-all fix. TechRadar pointed out some of the folks who tried a reboot and could not get their device to work correctly.

What If Rebooting Does Not Work?

Garmin knows that not everyone is going to be made happy with this. Their support message includes a link to a dedicated troubleshooting page, which provides:

  • 📌 A suite of device-specific solutions for affected models, including Forerunner, Instinct 3, vivoactive 4, and others
  • 📌 Extra steps for users still having a problem.

What is Next?

We have asked Garmin for a comment, but they have only told us that the known issue is ongoing and have pointed people to their support page.

This being the second major crashing issue in a row, Garmin may need to churn out a firmware fix to fix the problematic bug once and for all. Users experiencing the blue triangle bug will need to keep trying the suggested fixes or wait for a permanent fix from Garmin.
