“Nevertheless, she persisted.” You read four words from Elisabet Stamm’s latest collection to hear the spirit could not be any better summed up. A business reorganization meant uprooting her home and office and the many problems synonymous with independent fashion design, and Stamm stood her ground. She chose not to submit to the weight of it all but took what she could do, which was a lot.
Stamm chose an intimate presentation with her audiences, getting an up close and personal experience with her style and showing off her signature touch with denim and performance-inspired streetwear. Scratchy materiality was occasionally tied tight and well-edited, exposing her fastidious methodology towards construction, reading volume, texture, and contrast.
One of my favourite pieces was a pair of colour-block nylon pants sliced with curved insets of dynamic movement. These were paired with cropped puffers, a new take on one of her most popular silhouettes. The mini hoodie beneath the stop bra top gave the pursuit of proportions a newfound edge: athletic with a refined twist.
Denim, Stamm’s long-standing contribution. Black jeans with red stitching added an unexpected pop of colour, while grey-washed jeans with sheer back leg panels proved her powers to rework traditional materials with a twist. That obsessive dedication to detail was demonstrated by the fact that they were remade five times.
The passion that ran through the collection was not a theme but a motivator. This motif was underscored visually with red-washed denim and delicate rose prints, creating a reminder of resilience and creativity and the birth of a new day. Before the show, Stamm thought back to a million times he could have given up, but at the end of the day, mattering is the passion of creation. The setting of this collection, an enchanted garden, made this idea work. Characters in the living story were embodied in models, who were no more passive figures than the situation itself.
Stamm’s takes in a fashion landscape obsessed with spectacles that felt deeply personal and universally resonant. It is a story of persistence, learning from creative and logistical road bugs, and finding beauty. She told a story this season, even though this season she showed clothing. True to her theme, she let it bloom.
