Dayle Haddon, a trailblazing model, actor, and philanthropist, died Dec. 27, and the world said goodbye. A carbon monoxide leak at the home where Haddon died was reported. Her loss has surpassed all words describing her beauty, grace, and nonstop dedication to improving and thriving our world.

A Star is Born

Haddon was made famous in the late 1960s thanks to a thriving modelling career born in Montreal in 1948. In the 1970s and ’80s, she picked up a regular spot in the pages and models for Helmut Newton and Arthur Elgort, among others. Her beautiful, natural features and bold, sophisticated style drew her comparison to an icon of her era: An individual and high gloss woman if there was ever one.

All throughout her career, whether as a feature writer or a young assistant editor, the connection reached its highest point yet with a feature in the magazine’s September issue in 2024. Baz Luhrmann also photographed Haddon as she posed for her dazzling ‘The Heist of the Heart’ feature, showing that whilst Haddon was a star of the silver screen, she was one of the greatest ever to create an impact on the big screen.

Championing Mature Beauty

In the 1990s, Haddon reshaped thoughts of beauty with mature women in fashion and beauty ads. Her groundbreaking work with L’Oréal Paris as a brand ambassador sent a powerful message: beauty has no age limit. She inspired (many) women to be beautiful in their own way, free from the societal pressure tied to the beauty industry’s youth-centric ideals.

A Life of Giving Back

Haddon’s influence straddled the realms of fashion but did so in style. In the 2000s, she served as a UNICEF ambassador and devoted herself to raising the lives of children everywhere. She founded WomenOne, a nonprofit geared at empowering girls through education. They were deeply personal and impactful, as her efforts to uplift young women and give them opportunities to have a future was a big thing.

Tributes to a Trailblazer

Haddon’s passing spread news, and colleagues, friends, and admirers paid tribute. “Way beyond beautiful,” said Hairstylist Christiaan of the Enslin. A sweet, spectacular woman: Fellow model Veronica Webb described her that way. She was so kind, and class was her calling card.”

Haddon’s legacy is one of grace and generosity, seized and increased by an incredible resilience. She was also a symbol of beauty, besides that, a symbol of hope and an inspiration to women and girls everywhere in the world.

A Legacy in Vogue

Dayle Haddon has been held up in Vogue with unmatched elegance throughout her illustrious career. From her first shoot in 1976 to her stunning 2024 appearance, she epitomizes timeless beauty and sophistication.

On behalf of Dayle Haddon and the fashion world, we celebrate Dayle as a true icon in fashion and the world. She will leave us, but she’ll keep inspiring the next generations of dreamers to dream and change the world accordingly.
